You may have seen Magpie's poster/leaflet on your travels around Jávea and the surrounding areas.
Magpie has lived on the Costa Blanca for around 13 years now and is a much liked and loved local character.
As Magpie explained to me, the reason she chose to offer the proceeds of her charity walk to M.A.B.S. is quite simple.
"There are very few of us in this world who have not known someone who has suffered from Cancer. Often the treatment for Cancer is, in itself, quite frightening and painful. Here, on the Costa Blanca, many of us, Spaniards and expatriots, are at a loss when it comes to paperwork and officialdom. This situation becomes acute when having to submit to Cancer treatment.
The M. A. B. S. group were introduced to me by both my doctor and a good friend who offers nursing help, here on the Costa Blanca."

M. A. B. S. M.A.B.S. aims to offer support for those who are perhaps alone, nervous or confused. Currently the Spanish Social Services system, lacking funds, has no support facilities available, whatsoever, so that the free services offered by M.A.B.S. are being stretched to the limit as people become aware of their existence."
