In Javea you will find just about everything you need in the local supermarkets.
There must be at least 7 or 8 large well stocked stores spread around the area,
not to mention the smaller sidestreet shops.
Some, like the 'Mas y Mas' chain, allow you to choose your fruit and vegetables
and have butchers at the counter to serve you the cuts of meat of your choice.
Others, as do 'Mercadona', have the meat and most other produce prepacked and
ready to go. It is all, generally, fresh produce and of good quality.
The choice of fresh goods at these supermarkets is quite impressive.
Most of the fruit and vegetables are local grown in Spain although you will
also find some more exotic produce from further afield.

The meat available is of the finest quality, with prices that are not too
painful for your purse.
You will also find 'English style' sausages in some of the supermarkets,
especially made to cater for the foreign residents in Javea.
If you buy a whole fresh chicken, bear in mind that it is 'whole' and you will
have to clean out the insides yourself.
The pork spare ribs are large and covered in tasty meat and ideal for the
bar-b-que, as are the beef ribs.
The Spanish make use of all the meat of their animals, so you may well come
across tongues, ears, heads and all kinds of innards laid out for purchase.

The fish counters in most supermarkets in Javea are just amazing. One of the
benefits of being in a fishing town.
Anglerfish is very popular in Spain, so you will often find it displayed on the
fish counters, along with sardines (when in season), trout, salmon, cod and
tuna, among many other products. The staff will clean the fish for you if you
ask.
All kinds of seafood is available. Watch out for the big pink prawns caught in
Denia, they say they are the best in Spain. Also available will be crabs,
lobsters and just about everything when in season.
You will also find just about every kind of shellfish, cockles and mussels,
very much alive oh!

You will also find many english and other foreign products on the shelves, like
Heinz beans, for instance. At the supermarket in the port you will find the
best selection, but most of the large stores will satisfy most needs.
